Celebrating the Winter Solstice with Sacred Foods and Feasting — The Druids Garden

The Winter Solstice has long been a time of feasting and fires, especially with regional and special foods, a tradition that has global significance in many cultures.  I’ve always enjoyed this time as a chance to dig into some really interesting sacred cooking and bring back the light by enjoying foods that were preserved in…

Greek Myths

secretsoftheserpent

Mythology is the history of ancient times and it is ancient thought. Myths have a lot of archetypes, but they are based on true experiences. The ancient tales are experiences of ancient history. Some are mental concepts, some are real life experiences, but you must be initiated into wisdom to understand them. I love the myths because it lets me into the minds of the ancient writers.

The Daughter of King Under Wave

secretsoftheserpent

The Daughter of King Under Wave is a Scottish fairy tale.  This story is from the Tuatha De Danaan.  A story of  a small band of Gaelic warriors called Fianna. This story is like so many other myths in that it mixes actual historical truth with allegory.   The land under the sea is Atlantis and Lemuria, but this story is also about the Sacred Feminine.  This story is full of symbolism about life and history.  I will be using the version from Lady Gregory and the book Gods and Fighting Men.  This is an old story so some of the language may seem odd.

Sacred Masculine

secretsoftheserpent

What does it mean to have the sacred masculine? Since my work is mostly the sacred feminine, I have had several readers ask me to write something on the sacred masculine.   The sacred masculine is a must for men and women to be well rounded, mature human beings.  I see very little of it left in the world.  It is a primal energy.  Kings had to develop it before they could be crowned king.  Today our leaders are supposedly elected.  So we just have the most popular person leading.  Pythagorus hated democracy for this reason.  Fully accessing the sacred masculine and sacred feminine is the closet a person can come to godhood.

A MID-SUMMER CELEBRATION

Good Witches Homestead

The young maid stole through the cottage door,
And blushed as she sought the Plant of pow’r; —
“Thou silver glow-worm, O lend me thy light,
I must gather the mystic St. John’s wort tonight,
The wonderful herb, whose leaf will decide
If the coming year shall make me a bride.”

In addition to the four great festivals of the Pagan Celtic year, there are four lesser holidays as well: the two solstices and the two equinoxes. In folklore, these are referred to as the four “quarter days” of the year, and modern Witches call them the four “Lesser Sabbats”, or the four “Low Holidays”. The summer solstice is one of them.

Technically, a solstice is an astronomical point and, due to the calendar creep of the leap-year cycle, the date may vary by a few days depending on the year. The summer solstice occurs when the sun reaches the…

Yahweh Returns

secretsoftheserpent

A large group of people were having a party at a large stadium.  It was before a championship soccer match, so they were all having a great time mingling among themselves.  Out of nowhere a man appears with a bellowing voice.  “Excuse me! Excuse me!”,  he says.  Everyone stops and looks at the man.  The place gets really quiet and the man begins to speak.  He says, “I am Yahweh.  You know me as God.  I just thought I would come back to Earth and see how things are going”.  Immediately without hesitation some people crowded around him and start bowing to him.  Yahweh notices that not everyone is bowing down to him so he gets angry and screams, “Bow down to me! All of you!”  So even more run over to him and start bowing down.
