Savory

Satureja hortensis / Satureja montana

Also, Known As:

  • Mountain Savory
  • Savory
  • Summer Savory
  • Winter Savory

Ancient herbal texts frequently mention about two types of savories – summer savory comprising the dense parts of the herb Satureja hortensis L., and the winter savory, which is acquired from the herb Satureja Montana L. While the summer savory is an annual plant, the winter savory is perennial and is used to add essence to foods. Both these aromatic species belong to the mint (Lamiaceae) plant family. They are small plants that are cultivated extensively as garden plants. These plants produce slender leaves and flowers whose color varies from pale lavender to pink to white. Of the two Satureja species, the summer savory is valued highly and has been used widely in folk medicine in comparison to the winter savory. Both these herbs have been valued as sex medicines for several centuries. It…

Normally, the tarragon plant, having slender stalks, grows up to a height of two feet and bears glossy green, elongated and slender leaves that are undivided. This shrub is intimately related to wormwood. Tarragon has fibrous roots that are long and extend to all areas where they are grown by means of runners. The shrub bears small flowers that are…

By AstrorisaMoon Forecaster

It’s Capricorn Full Moon Time
Thursday, June 28 2018, 12:53 AM
Moon 6° Capricorn, in House 10
Sun 6° Cancer, in House 4
This full moon opens in the sign of Capricorn, the archetype of Obaluaiye and it comes with a strong Jupterian~Obatala energy field. Look to see where Jupiter and Capricorn are in your birth chart to get a sound idea of what this full moon’s base energies are in relation to your natal houses. This information can help you to understand your current emotional state during this full moon forecast’s time which ranges from June 28 – July 26, 2018.
This moon time will require us to have a stable mind, yet it will challenge our intellect, and our ability to be sane in thought and reason.
During this time, our collective consciousness will be required to juggle and balance many issues, and concerns. We can find ourselves asking the questions “how can I get such and such done?” “Where is the time to do this and that?” Some people will be wondering how they can handle monetary changes, or where did this financial flip-flop come from? The unexpected monetary changes are related to the aspect of Uranus 1°
Taurus, in House 1, and these planetary energies of sun, moon, Uranus and others began to build momentum 8-10 days prior to the June 28th moon time. Uranus, is Sango’s planet and is in Taurus, the archetype of Oshun will affect us in a very personal way, because it’s in House 1.
The earth signs of Taurus and Capricorn are important now due to Saturn in Capricorn trining Uranus in Taurus. This means it is up to us to make things happen, and the way is open to get something done regardless of the unexpected occurrences.
The earth signs of Taurus and Capricorn have 3 malefic planets residing in them both Uranus Pluto, and Saturn, during this moon time. This indicates we will have to try hard to balance some aspect of our lives while simultaneously trying to create something important.

Did you know:

Capers – Capparis spinosa
• Capers are the flower buds of the Flinders rose (or caper bush) Capparis spinosa
• This thorny shrub is native to the Mediterranean and hardy to USDA zone 9
• Capers thrive in hot dry climates
• Grows as a mounding shrub with a sprawling habit
• The flower buds are hand-picked then either pickled, brined or packed in salt to preserve
• The bitter flavor is mellowed by pickling, resulting in a salty, slightly sweet taste

called a caperberry.

The Energy of Light – Crystals for the Summer Solstice

By Sonia Acone

The Summer Solstice, which falls between June 20th-23rd every year (June 21st this year in the northern hemisphere and December 21st in the southern hemisphere), is known in many cultures and as many names – Midsummer, Litha, St. John’s Day, Gathering Day, Drying-Up Moon, and many others. No matter what it is called, the Summer Solstice has been celebrated worldwide for centuries as a time of light, enchantment, growth, energy, and connection.

The Sun has reached its highest point and has entered into the zodiac sign of Cancer, which is ruled by the Moon, and this combination of the Sun and Moon together is wonderful to enhance the celebration of summer.  It is a time when weddings take place and vows are renewed; when pregnant women are blessed (growth isn’t just for plants!); when we can better connect to nature and all of its gifts.

The longest day of the year encourages us to get outdoors and celebrate life and light. Spring has rewarded us with growth in the flowers, plants, and herbs that we’ve planted and cultivated. Now is the time to get out there and reap what we’ve sown – cut those flowers and place them in containers/vases in and outdoors; snip those herbs to hang for drying, when they can be used in cooking, potpourri and sachets. The trees are full of leaves, so no one will think it silly if you happen to walk up to your favorite tree and give it a hug and a whisper of thanks for its protection and beauty.

Walking Meditation Garden with Hugelkultur Beds

By Druid’s Garden

Dana's avatarThe Druid's Garden

As a practitioner of permaculture and as a druid, I am always looking for ways to work with the land to create sacred and ecologically healthy spaces.  That is, to create self-sustaining ecosystems that produce a varitey of yields: create habitat, offer nectar and pollen, systems that retain water and nutrients, offer medicine and food, create beauty and magic.  But conventional gardens, even sheet mulched gardens, can falter in water scarce conditions.  So building gardens long-term for resiliency and with a variety of climate challenges in mind is key.  At the same time, I am also looking to create sacred gardens, that is, not just places to grow food (which is simple enough) but to develop sacred relationships and deepen my connection with the living earth. Given all of this, I developed a design for a butterfly-shaped garden that would use hugelkultur raised beds and allow for a space…

Crystals for Men: Establishing Firm Foundations

By Crystal Cosmopolitan

Black OnyxGarnetTiger’s Eye

In today’s world, men are often conflicted in regards to how to balance the expectations placed on them in their professional and personal lives. As the famous psychologist and world-renowned author John Gray, Ph.D. suggests in his latest book, Venus on Fire, Mars on Ice, men and women are hormonally wired to think and behave in different ways.

Men typically find satisfaction in work, which is related to the production of the hormone testosterone. However, the levels of stress in today’s work environment and the ever-increasing demands on workers in any industry today easily create an imbalance where men feel pressured to pour all their energy into work and push their personal life and emotional relationships to the margins. Over time, this imbalance typically creates a range of health problems, including those that significantly erode a man’s self-esteem.

I strongly recommend reading Mr. Gray’s book for detailed explanations and advice, but here I will turn to crystals that may help to counteract this, create a greater balance, and help in reducing stress, and thus provide you with a great foundation upon which to build a life that you desire.
