The Plant Spirit Oracle Project

Spirit of the Oak! Spirit of the Oak from the Plant Spirit oracle!

As we’ve been exploring over the last few weeks, plant spirit communication can take many forms.  The rustle of leaves outside of your window, the inner knowing, or the song a plant sings to you as you honor it for the harvest. These simple messages weave a complex landscape beyond what we can sense with our fives senses, and invite us deeper into the mysteries of the earth and all living beings. And as we’ve explored, the voices of the plants, the spirits of the plants, take a number of forms and can appear to each of us uniquely. What is clear is that the more that we open ourselves up to understanding them, honoring them, and working with them, the more connection we have with the living earth in her many forms.

Part of the reason I’ve been sharing so…

New Moon in Virgo ~ Opportunities for Advancement

Dear all,
I have some really great news for you — After a challenging summer, we are finally reaching calm astrological waters!
In addition to an excellent positioning of the New Moon in Virgo, we will also have the support and stability provided by Mercury and Saturn — two big players when it comes to movement, studying, learning, teaching, organization, long-term planning and communication. You may notice this as being able to do anything related to these areas with greater ease and precision.
The New Moon in Virgo on the 9th has only one challenging aspect with a planet that often brings confusion, deception, fears, and disillusionment.
However, this New Moon has many more positive aspects with several other planets whose influence can help us overcome this quite easily.
Just remember that based on your personal chart you may experience this in a variety of ways.
Generally, the atmosphere that all these planetary interactions create will be one of generosity, focus, self-confidence, optimism, increased spiritual growth, and many opportunities for positive changes . . .
The key change that you may want to focus on this month is your health, specifically how to arrange your schedule to include more wellness/energy/spiritual activities that support your well-being.
To maximize this astro-spiritual opening for change, actively focus on making new connections, expanding your circle, learning new things and growing spiritually.
Crystals to assist you with this are Labradorite, Amazonite, Turquoise, and Imperial Topaz.
For those of you who are local (Hampton Roads, VA), here are some news — send me an email back if you are interested:
1) Early Morning Beach Meditation, Saturday, September 15, $10

Crystals for Autumn Equinox

by Hibiscus Moon

I REALLY LOVE this time of year! But I think I say that every time the seasons change. I get such a charge from the seasonal cycles.

The Autumn Equinox (or Spring Equinox for those in the Southern Hemi) is now upon us and for the purposes of this blog post I’m going to stick to the Autumn aspects, but if you’re from Down Under or just plain interested, you can read my classic blog post on Spring Equinox here.

Some Science, Of Course!

So, before I get to the crystals, a bit o’ science on the Equinox stuffs for a sec. I can’t help myself! This year’s Autumn (or Fall) Equinox lands on Friday, September 22.

There are 2 equinoxes each year; in September and March. Because of the tilt of our planet on our axis, we’re usually getting more sun on one hemisphere than on the other, but there are 2 times/year (Spring and Autumn Equinox) when we get pretty much equal amounts of sunlight on both hemi’s, so our night and day are of equal length everywhere on Mama Earth. So cool!

Plant Spirit Communication, Part II: Communication in Many Forms

Dana's avatarThe Druid's Garden

I remember taking a drive with some friends and friends-of-friends some years ago. As we were driving through a really nice forest preserve with some old trees, one of my friends in the car said, “There’s so much money there in the trees, some of them would be worth more than $1500.” He went on to talk about how his family had recently logged their property and earned over $25,000. Other people in the car jumped in and talked about the forest’s beauty and argued against him; and I just listened. Finally, I responded and said, “Every living being has a spirit. I hope that forest stands forever. They deserve to live as much as you or I.” Before this conversation had started, I was listening to the singing of that forest, so happy, so safe to be preserved. This experience stayed with me, and was a good reminder about…

There’s a Crystal for That!

Crystals For Your Home

Today I will begin a 6-week series on crystals to use around your home. Many of us carry or wear our crystals to help us with various healing, but you can also set crystals around your home to promote certain atmospheres or help carry out specific intentions. When using crystals in your home, you can choose to display large crystals in the form of towers or spheres, or you may wish to be more subtle by hiding small tumbled stones in drawers or under sofa cushions. Whichever way you prefer will be perfectly fine and will have the same effect.

For week 1, here is a list of crystals to use in your kitchen/dining area. The kitchen for many people is the hub of their home. This modern-day hearth is a high-traffic area for most families and tends to be a place where people gather when we have friends or family visiting. This is also the space where we nourish ourselves and our loved ones, which is why keeping this space energetically healthy can be very important. Here are 4 crystals to give your kitchen a spiritual remodel.

1. Agate – Agate has a very gentle, calming energy that is good for grounding and promotes overall wellness and longevity.

2. Amazonite – This stone opens both the heart and the throat chakra, promoting loving communication. It dispels negativity and is beneficial for calcium and mineral absorption.

3. Chryscolla – Chrysocolla purifies the environment in which it’s placed and promotes love and understanding. It can bring tranquility and serenity to the space, as well as bond family members together, improving the relationships between people by encouraging positive communication.

4. Jasper – All jaspers are known to be great nurturers. Whichever type of jasper you choose will alleviate stress and tension in the space and will encourage altruism and strengthen the family bond. It also clears electromagnetic and environmental pollution from the space, as well as work toward clearing emotional/mental negativity from the people sharing the space.

New Moon + Solar Eclipse in Leo — How Do You Hide Your Light?

Dear all,
As you know, the New Moon time is a time of new beginnings, but this one is also asking you that in order to truly begin something new, you first need to look at how you hide your light. Most of us do it because of the fears or perceived failures from the past and with this Eclipse we are asked to become deeply aware of this and release those obstacles.
This Eclipse is also strongly influenced by the retrograde Mercury, as well as retrograde Pluto, which means that the theme of the past is that much more strongly emphasized.
Whatever questions come up for you during this time, whatever issues that you thought were behind you or fears that you thought you overcame — be brave and look at them again. They will have much less power over you if you do so. And write, write, write . . . about everything and anything . . . here is where the Mercury retrograde will really help you take it all out in the open . . .
Crystals to help with this are Sunstone, Orange Calcite (pictured), Green Calcite, Citrine, Fluorite, Smokey Quartz . . .
The Eclipse happens in the early morning on Saturday, august 11th, and will not be visible in North America.
Remember that during the Eclipse part of what we need to know is hidden from us. So assume that you do not have all the information for any projects that you may have coming up and wait a little before putting things into action or you’ll have to redo it later.
After the 19th, things will become much clearer and we will all get the “go-ahead” from the Universe.
Till next time,
Stay happy and healthy!

Herbal Meditations and Magic for Thriving in a Neo-Colonial World

Guest student post by Avani Mody

Sunrise:

There is an incomparable beauty to sunrise. The time of the gods, as it is described in Ayurvedic traditions. As a child my father told me, walk barefoot on the earth and take in the green grass at sunrise, to strengthen my eyes. The combination of a luscious green and morning sunlight, calmed my eyes and mind. During my recent, formal herbal education, this advice remains in my psyche. The colors, beauty and feel of the plants, indeed calm my mind, and strengthen my vision my ability to see in multiple dimensions. Plant meditations are one of the ways I like to spend time with plants and imbue myself with their serenity.

Neo-Colonial Herbalism:

Learning herbal medicine that is rooted in traditional cultures, resilience and a holistic worldview is complex and profound. In our contemporary society, and perhaps especially here in the…
