What went wrong with truck driver training?

The government and the companies don’t want drivers with years of experience because they know too much.

Over the last few months I have been noticing a larger number of photos surfacing on the internet of trucks in precarious position due to driver error. The two most common types of photo I see are those involving a driver who misjudged a turn and ran over something with the trailer tires, the other type is bridge strikes.

With the rise of the types of incidents comes a peak in interest as to why they are happening. If a driver is cutting their turns improperly then there certainly must be a reason, if a driver is hitting bridges then there must also be a reason. These things led me to question if drivers are getting enough training, if they are being screened prior to being accepted to a training school and if they are being trained by individuals who are qualified to do so.

Truck Drivers Speak, Nobody Listens

They’ve always had people with no practical knowledge of the industry setting rules for something of which they are ignorant.

Every recent discussion regarding the many issues within the trucking industry today has included at some time these words “is anyone listening?” The FMCSA, MCSAC, and DOT have all made claims that they listen to input from all parties involved, they even set up listening sessions and surveys that were promoted as their agencies listening to the concerns of the professional truck driver. What they didn’t tell you is that in many cases a computer was replying to their concerns with pre-canned messages that were triggered by select keywords within the comments sent in by a driver.

They held a listening session at the recent MATS truck show in which drivers were invited to appear in person to speak their mind or to send in questions and comments via email and they would be addressed during the session. A large portion of those questions were simply answered by Anne Ferro…

Our Mountain Home Welcomes Preston Fest

Wedneday, May 1st at 8pm edt; Miss Paula and Our Mountain Home welcome Daniel Witter.

Daniel Witter is the organizer of this year’s Preston Fest, a musical festival fund raiser, for the Bobby Preston Memorial Fund.

Preston Fest is held at the Frostburg Community Park, June 15, 11:30 am to 10 pm. Located at 200 South Water Street, Frostburg, Maryland.

A new addition to the 2013 festival is the New Leaf Holistic Village.

New Leaf will provide many opportunities to expand festival attendees knowledge of a wide array of topics–holistic health, wellness and spirituality through exhibits and free workshops. New Leaf will also feature intuitive and psychic readers, energy balancing, spiritual mediums, specialty organic products, and unique one-of-a-kind gifts.

The most satisfying part of the New Leaf experience is festival goers becoming acquainted with the speakers, workshop presenters, and vendors.

Lauren Carr fell in love with mysteries when her mother read Perry Mason to her at bedtime. The first installment in the Joshua Thornton mysteries,A Small Case of Murder was a finalist for the Independent Publisher Book Award. A Reunion to Die For was released in hardback in June 2007. Both of these books are in re-release.

Lauren is also the author of the Mac Faraday Mysteries, which takes place in Deep Creek Lake, Maryland. The first two books in her series, It’s Murder, My Son and Old Loves Die Hard have been getting rave reviews from readers and reviewers. Lauren’s fifth mystery, Shades of Murder has been receiving rave reviews since its release.

Lauren’s sixth book, Dead on Ice, will be released in Fall 2012. Dead on Ice will introduce a new series entitled,Lovers in Crime, in which Joshua Thornton will join forces with homicide detective Cameron Gates.

The owner of Acorn Book Services, Lauren is also a publishing manager, consultant, editor, cover and layout designer, and marketing agent for independent authors. This spring, two books written by independent authors will be released through the management of Acorn Book Services.
