Wild Horses & Burros Maintain Protections Says the US Senate

Straight from the Horse's Heart

by R.T. Fitch, president/co-founder of Wild Horse Freedom Federation

Finally, a bit of good news for our wild horses and burros; yesterday, November 20th 2017, the Senate Appropriations Committee released a draft version of their Interior Appropriations Bill with wording that maintains the current protection of our wild horses and burros, the same wording that the House stripped from their bill several months ago.

A big shout out of thanks to Senators Murkowski, Udall and the entire committee for their commitment to uphold the wishes and desires of the American people.

Likewise, many thanks to all of you who are the voices of the voiceless who have worked tirelessly to reach out to your elected officials to ensure that their voting represented what YOU, the tax paying American citizens, wanted versus a lobbying private interest group.

But the fight is not over, now the House and Senate will…

Fabulous Fake Facts About American’s Wild Horses and Burros

Straight from the Horse's Heart

By Charlotte Roe

“PLEASE call your Senator and share this Misinformation with them before they vote on the Appropriation Bill.  Let them know that you will NOT tolerate the murder of federally protected wild horses and burros.  AND if money is the issue, why in the hell are horses being rounded-up as I type.  It is pure insanity.!” ~ R.T.

FAKE: Wild horses and burro populations are exploding on the range.

The BLM’s claims that free-roaming equine populations double every four years is not backed by evidence (even their own version of such). Real world population rates are context-specific. They vary widely depending on management techniques, climate, forage, water resources and predation. The BLM’s population estimates are notoriously sketchy, often contradictory, and in many cases biologically impossible. It…

BLM approves plan to remove wild horses from outside established area

The Bureau of Land Management today announced a final decision to remove up to 100 wild horses this fall from private land and other areas outside the designated Piceance-East Douglas Herd Management Area  in northwestern Colorado.
The decision will also allow future gathers to remove wild horses that stray from the 300-square-mile Piceance-East Douglas HMA designated for their management.
“The BLM is committed to maintaining a healthy wild horse population on healthy rangelands in the Piceance-East Douglas Herd Management Area,” said BLM White River Field Manager Kent Walter. “Wild horses that stray from the established Herd Management Area need to be removed to reduce conflicts with other resources and private land under the Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act.”
The BLM will primarily use a helicopter drive trap method to gather the horses…

Arizona Advocate Alleges FOIA Indicates U.S.F.S. Violated Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act

Guest article compiled by: “Heber Wild Horses

“A very interesting and positive sidebar to the release of Wild Horse Freedom Federation‘s informative and timely White Paper coupled with WHFF’s FOIA based “The Truth” series is the information that has flooded in from other volunteer advocates doing their personal parts in attempting to help/aid America’s wild horses and burros.  Today’s installment showcases the fact the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) does not hold a monopoly on the abuse and mismanagement of our National Icons.  Many thanks to the Heber Wild Horse advocate who  forwarded this article to us for sharing.  If any of our readers have similar stories that they would like to share, please feel free to forward to my attention and we will review for publication.  Keep up the great work and continue to endeavor in getting the White Paper and Exhibits before your legislators. …

Straight from the Horse's Heart

photo artistry by Carol Walker of Wild Horse Freedom Federation

“Many compliments to the advocates who compiled the raw phone contact information for members of the House Appropriations Committee that meets this Tuesday morning, (TOMORROW), when the fate of America’s wild horses and burros will again be joined. Also included are the Senate members who’ll play a key role in deciding whether the provision allowing the reintroduction of US horse slaughterhouses will be defeated. Calls are the key, immediate and polite. “No slaughter, NO WAY!” is the goal.

After calling, Tweet, Facebook, Email…do everything you can to get the message out but please remain focused and polite, it is a simple message, “No Slaughter, NO WAY”!  Let’s get after it!!” ~ R.T.

ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo.Today the Bureau of Land Management released its draft environmental assessment for a proposed wild horse gather in southwest Wyoming and is seeking public input. The proposed gather will reduce wild horse populations in the Salt Wells Creek, Adobe Town and Great Divide Basin Herd Management Areas to their low Appropriate Management Levels in order to maintain healthy wild horses on healthy, productive rangelands.

Currently, public lands are home to 73,000 wild horses and burros across the west. This amounts to nearly triple the 26,715 population target that was established by the Wild-Free Roaming Horses and Burros Act of 1971, as amended. The extensive overpopulation of wild horses…

A federal judge on Tuesday tossed a lawsuit brought by Utah ranchers demanding the Bureau of Land Management remove “excess” wild horses from several areas in the West Desert they say are overrun with free-roaming horses that displace their cattle.

Represented by Karen Budd-Falen, a Wyoming lawyer who sources say is undergoing final vetting to serve as the BLM’s next director, the ranchers argued that federal law requires the removal of horses that exceed population targets the agency has set for particular herd areas. But U.S. District Judge Jill Parrish ruled that roundups are not…

BLM holds on to every last cow while planning to sterilize mares, geld stallions and remove 1,251 wild horses from the Pershing Complex in Nevada

Straight from the Horse's Heart

Public comments due July 12, 2017 by 4:30 pm PT on the BLM’s Preliminary Environmental Assessment (PEA) plans for the East Pershing Complex in Nevada.

Urge ALTERNATIVE C, the NO ACTION ALTERNATIVE in this plan.
Once again, the BLM doesn’t want to discuss reducing any livestock, but intends to sterilize, geld and remove wild horses from their federally protected areas forever.
The East Pershing complex consists of 3 Herd Management Areas – North Stillwater HMA, Tobin HMA and Augusta Mountain HMA.  It consists of 4 Herd Areas – Augusta Mountain HA, Humboldt HA, East Range HA and Sonoma Range HA.  Of course, the BLM doesn’t have Herd Area Maps on it’s NEW (with much less information to the public) website.   This complex consists of 2,191,650 acres in Nevada.

BLM plans to reduce herd sizes from what they…

Documents obtained from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) via the Freedom of Information Act by a Phoenix-based non-profit, The Conquistador Program, reveal shocking and detailed plans to destroy healthy wild horses in government holding facilities as well as those still remaining in the wild on public lands.

BLM employees as well as a USDA veterinarian held weekly “Implementation Team” meetings beginning in July of 2008 in which they discussed and developed strategies aimed at ridding BLM of thousands of mustangs…

Somehow over the past century the notion of what it is to be a ‘civil servant’ and having the great privilege of serving ‘We the People’ has morphed into the current notion of being elected as a demigod, and being above the people. We see it all around us today in politics… so that statement is self-evident.

I think we’re getting snowed by many officials and politicians, and it’s to the point now where they don’t even seem to care if we even know or…
