Happy birthday April babies! Your birthstone, the diamond, is the rich cousin of graphite.

April’s birthstone is the diamond.

Diamonds are the rich cousins of graphite. Both are crystalline forms of pure carbon. The enormous differences in their properties are a result of the way the carbon atoms are bonded together. In graphite, carbon atoms are arranged in sheets that easily slide past each other, which makes graphite ideal as a lubricant and, of course, pencil lead. Diamond crystals, on the other hand, are a tight-fisted network of carbon atoms securely held in four directions, making it the hardest naturally-occurring substance in the world.

In order to achieve such a compact and strongly-held network of carbon atoms, it is believed that diamonds must have crystallized deep under the Earth’s surface. At these depths the proper conditions for the formation of diamonds exist; at 90 to 120 miles deep, pressures are more than 65,000 times that of the atmosphere at the Earth’s surface, with temperatures…

Cultural Appropriation, Plant Relationships, and Nature Connection

Dana's avatarThe Druid's Garden

As a druid, someone who connects to the local landscape spiritually, I’ve gotten my fair share questions about cultural appropriation and druidry’s relationship to indigenous practices, particularly traditions indigenous to the USA. The conversation may go something like this, “So druidry, is that like Native American?” My response is, “Druids and Native Americans both honor and respect the land, and see spiritual significance in nature.  However, Druidry comes from a different cultural tradition (the British Isles, particularly Wales) and our relationship with the land, spiritual practices, and celebrations are completely different than indigenous peoples in North America”  Another thing that happens with some frequency is that I describe something on this blog, like land healing, building sacred spaces, or other such spiritual work. And someone who has never commented before leaves a comment that says something like “You don’t have a right to do that, this land belongs…

Crystal Empowerment For Empaths

Crystal Empowerment for Empaths / krista-mitchell.com

Are you an empath?

Are you someone who’s so sensitive to the feelings of others that you experience them as your own?

If so, you’re in good company: I’m an empath, too.

And I’ll be completely honest with you: I went through energy hell living in New York City. It’s a pressure-cooker, and I was doing spiritual healing which required me to be extra in tune.

It was overwhelming, to say the least.

It took me a looooong time to learn how to manage being an empath, but I never saw it as a liability – I saw it as a strength.

It was how I was able to tune in so powerfully to my crystals, read my clients’ energy systems, have a sensory awareness of the vibes in a space when I was doing a space clearing.

It was also how I was able to fill a room with healing presence, because yeah, empaths aren’t just receiving, they’re projecting, too.

It was a gift that I learned to nurture.

So the # of messages I get on a weekly basis from empaths asking me how they can protect themselves from other peoples’ feelings concerns me.

It concerns me because it means that they’re not in their power. They’re exposed, vulnerable, suffering. And it’s my experience that the empaths of the world are our healers, our artists, teachers, guides.

The Energies of March

Crooked Bear Creek Organic Herbs's avatarGood Witches Homestead

March promises to be an eventful month energetically, one that is full of potential if we can successfully ride the waves of change and embrace the new beginnings that it will bring forward.

The new moon on March 6th coincided with a big planetary shift of energy created by Uranus leaving Pisces to take up residence in Taurus, where it will remain for the next seven years. This movement of cosmic energy has probably already taken your focus of attention into a new area of your life, possibly revealing where an overhaul or energetic spring clean is going to be required. Uranus is a powerful planetary force that stimulates freedom, liberation, and enlightenment, so do your best to go with the flow of what it brings into focus for you. Following through with the process of change that it has instigated, will help you awaken latent potential needed for the…

Chakra Cleansing and Balancing

Crooked Bear Creek Organic Herbs's avatarGood Witches Homestead

Balancing our energy centers (chakras) can support us in our lives in so many ways.

Chakra is the Sanskrit word for “wheel,” referring to the various energy centers in the body. As we move through life we find ourselves at different places on the wheel so understanding the power we hold in each energy center teaches us where we get stuck. Energy blocks can keep us from feeling grounded, connected to our personal courage, expressing our creativity, following our heart, speaking our truth, listening to our inner voice, or connecting to our higher self.

It is through our five senses that we experience the world and each chakra bath is created to activate each of your nervous systems sensory organs; sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste. Taking time for ritual, to be still with ourselves fully (body, mind, and spirit), is sacred. In today’s we are pulled in so many…

The Zeal Chakra

The Zeal Chakra (also referred to as “The Mouth of God” or “The Well of Dreams”) is located at the back of the neck and the base of the skull, where there is an indention. It is an ancient chakra that has been dormant but is now beginning to awaken. Its color ray is magenta. When it is fully activated, this center will regulate multi-dimensional telepathic communication. Awakening the Zeal Chakra assists the kundalini in rising, and you experience an increase in clairvoyance, clairaudience, astral travel, vivid dream recall, healing abilities, empathy, and telepathy. It is also known as the ascension chakra, and I love that it is coming online for so many right now. If you have been experiencing strange sensations in this area or tension in your neck and shoulders, it might be a result of your Zeal Chakra beginning to awaken.  Not much is written about crystals…

Awakening Your Third Eye

Crooked Bear Creek Organic Herbs's avatarGood Witches Homestead

IT TAKES A VISION, BOTH PERSONAL AND COLLECTIVE,
TO CHANGE THE MANY DYSFUNCTIONAL ASPECTS OF OUR WORLD
THAT KEEPS US ENMESHED, TRAPPED AND DISENGAGED.
VISION IS AN ESSENTIAL PART OF THE HEALING PROCESS.
– ANODEA JUDITH

The Third Eye chakra, aka the sixth chakra, is located between the eyebrows on the forehead and connects us to our visualizations, deep inner wisdom, and truth. It represents our deepest consciousness and guidance. The sixth chakra allows clairvoyance, the ability to see clearly, and imagination while tapping into our psychic abilities. It is the point in which we perceive, store, create, and project on ourselves and those around us – it is, essentially, a gateway to the Soul.

In the center of your forehead, you can imagine your Third Eye to be open, clear and ready to receive what it is the world around you is showing you. However, during times of experiencing…
