I was standing near the water, where the sidewalk met the sea, when something began to emerge. It was dark, so I couldn’t see much, but I was surrounded by beauty.
Fireflies lit the balmy night and flute music wafted through the air like sweet jasmine.
Then slowly, as though waking from a deep sleep, a dragon rose from the water.
She blinked, looked me in the eye, and then gave me her blessing.
Water Dreams Reveal Your Status in Health, Wealth, Life, and Love
Dreams of water carry important, life changing information.
It was a water dream that inspired me to switch careers and engage my true purpose.
It was a water dream that got me to the doctor’s office about a lump that turned out to be cancer.
Water dreams can change (or save) your life, so it’s important to pay attention. But understanding what these dreams are telling you can be challenging unless you know what to look for.
Whether river or rain, hurricane or tsunami, water dreams carry with them messages from your unconscious and reveal the hidden motives that drive your waking life.
When you understand how your unconscious motives, beliefs, or life experiences are impacting your progress, it’s easier to shift the problem so you can move forward with meaningful action, and water dreams clarify precisely what’s amiss.
How to Explore Water Dreams
The first question to ask when working with water dreams is, “What are the qualities and characteristics of the water?” Am I experiencing:
- Churning Water
- Flooding Water
- Still Waters Running Deep
- Breathing Under Water
- Drowning in Water
- Disappearing Water
- Polluted Water
- Staying Dry When Submerged
- Enjoyable Water
- Overwhelming Water
- Being Afraid of the Water
- A river, lake, stream, or ocean? Rain, mist, or fog?
Each variation carries with it a different message.
Polluted river water is different than a clear, crystal spring, and could on one level be a reference to a health problem.
In a dream group I was leading, a woman shared how she’d dreamed of polluted water and in the dream said to herself, “This isn’t right. I want crystal clear water!” And so the water cleansed itself and became clean. I suspect her dream-self diagnosed a problem, possibly health related, and healed it, all in one dream.
To explore the meaning of your water dream, begin by substituting the word “water” with “emotion” and you’ll have a clue about the dream’s topic. For instance:
Churching water could be “churching emotion”, which might refer to a difficult emotional experience.
Polluted emotion could be about feeling toxic, unhealthy emotions.
Tsunami water is big emotion and is often about feelings of overwhelm.
Water dreams don’t always indications of problems. Sometimes they can be a solution.
Sometime around 2006, I dreamed I was a bookkeeper, but instead of sitting behind a computer all day typing in numbers, I watered people’s gardens with water that came directly from Source and which caused my clients to become millionaires.
Reviewing this dream, I might have said, “I am a bookkeeper and I use emotions that come directly from Source, or desires that come directly from Source (soul purpose), to tend to my clients’ gardens, and in doing so, my clients become millionaires.”
That dream inspired me to trust there was a better way for me to make money than the current job I had that felt like a waste of my time. A few months later I quit my job and I’ve been exclusively self-employed ever since, doing work that feeds my soul, not just my bank account.
Explore What’s Hidden in Your Water?
What’s hiding in your water can be as revealing as the type of water you’ve encountered. Water can be more than churning or still or polluted. It can be full of friendly dolphins or frightening sea monsters. Each inhabitant has its own message for you.
Many years ago, I dreamed I was floating in the middle of the ocean, when a dolphin came to rescue me, but instead of delivering me to safety, she dropped me off at the nearest shark!
The shark circled me, open its toothy jaw, and bit hard, but didn’t draw blood. I woke still feeling the sting of the teeth on my leg.
Shark was showing me that my bite, my words, could be powerful, deadly even, but that it is better to practice restraint to prevent irreparable damage. That dream helped me channel my anger in healthy ways that effect change, but that don’t do damage.
What’s Waiting in Your Water?
Water dreams can help you assess your emotional state and how it relates to your health, wealth, life and love, then show you what you might do to return to balance.
Keep track of your dreams in a journal and pay special attention to water dreams. You never know when they will give you the exact information you need to create health and wellness.
